Diagnostic Spirometry

360 Medicx Harley Street Clinic

Overview

Diagnostic spirometry is a vital tool in assessing lung function and is routinely used in diagnosing and monitoring various respiratory conditions. At 360 Medicx, we provide precise spirometry testing at our Harley Street Clinic, delivered by experienced respiratory professionals in a comfortable, private setting.

Why Spirometry Matters

Spirometry allows our clinicians to assess how well your lungs function by measuring how much air you can inhale and exhale, and how quickly. This is essential in early detection of lung disease, monitoring treatment progress, and preparing patients for surgery or specialist care.

Conditions Assessed Using Spirometry

Our spirometry tests assist in the diagnosis and evaluation of several respiratory conditions, including:

  • Asthma

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

  • Pulmonary fibrosis

  • Interstitial lung disease

  • Post-COVID respiratory issues

  • Restrictive lung disorders

  • Bronchiectasis

  • Exercise-induced asthma

Who Should Get a Spirometry Test?

You may benefit from spirometry if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Persistent coughing or wheezing

  • Shortness of breath during activity

  • A history of smoking

  • Known respiratory conditions that require regular monitoring

  • Reduced stamina or breathlessness after illness (e.g., Long COVID)

  • Pre-operative assessments for surgery

What Happens During a Spirometry Test?

During the test, you will be asked to:

  • Sit comfortably with a clip on your nose

  • Inhale deeply and exhale forcefully into a mouthpiece

  • Repeat the test 2-3 times to ensure accuracy

  • Results such as FVC (Forced Vital Capacity) and FEV1 (Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second) will be recorded

A bronchodilator may be given between tests to check for lung response to medication.

Advanced Respiratory Diagnostics

In addition to spirometry, we offer a wider range of pulmonary diagnostics, including:

  • Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT)

  • Pulse oximetry

  • Peak flow measurement

  • Sleep study referrals

  • Imaging via partner clinics (X-ray, CT, MRI)

These help us build a comprehensive picture of your respiratory health.
