Biography

Mr Andrew F. Alalade is a consultant neurosurgeon at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in skull base, pituitary, cerebrovascular, and general neurosurgery, with a particular focus on degenerative spinal conditions. He is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN).

Mr Alalade completed his neurosurgical training in the London North Thames rotation before undertaking the BASO/HCA International Foundation Travelling Fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College, USA, gaining expertise in minimally invasive brain surgery. He subsequently completed advanced subspecialty fellowships at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia, and The Walton Centre, Liverpool, UK.

A Fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) and the European Board of Neurological Surgery (FEBNS), Mr Alalade has been recognised for his contributions to diversity and education, including being named “Diversity Leader” by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) in 2022 and receiving a nomination for the ASiT Silver Scalpel Trainer Award in 2025.

Mr Alalade has published extensively on skull base neurosurgery, cerebrovascular neurosurgery, and minimally invasive techniques, and is a regular instructor on international neurosurgical courses. From 2022 to 2025, he served as Regional Director for the North-West England Neurosurgery Teaching Programme and is currently a member of the Neurosurgery Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) with the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST).
